The following list consists of all the cruelty-free brands we have vetted as cruelty-free based on our criteria, which can be found below. Its purpose is to help you shop truly cruelty-free no matter which products you need, and no matter what your budget is, anywhere and at any stores. You can use the filter to narrow the list based on your needs or preferences.
This list is for those who wish to avoid brands that test on animals or fund animal testing, and purchase only from the brands that have been vetted as cruelty-free. This means that the brands on our list have confirmed that no animal testing is performed on their finished products or ingredients during production, either by their company, their suppliers, or any third parties.
In order to ensure the brands we support do not put themselves at risk of animal testing, we do not consider brands that sell in China to be cruelty-free even if they use certain loopholes.

Our Criteria
All the brands found on this list were vetted to be cruelty-free, meaning:
- Finished Products: Their finished products are not tested on animals by the company or any other company.
- Ingredients: Their ingredients are not tested on animals by the company or any other company.
- Suppliers: Their suppliers do not test ingredients, raw materials, or finished products on animals.
- Third Parties: No third party is testing their finished products or ingredients animal on their behalf.
- Required by Law: They don’t test on animals where the law requires it, and are not sold in mainland China.

I also wondered the same! I just saw their website has a Peta ‘Cruelty Free & Vegan’ banner, plus they don’t have any stores in China. Safe to say they’re good to go 🙂

Can you tell me if Rodan and Fields is cruelty free. They claim to not test on animals, but I have a hard time believing that fully. Same with Arbonne. Could you look into both?

Hi I would like to ask about dettol, dermacol it’s a Czech company the don’t test, pupa an Italy company.Catrice,essence what about these brands? Olso I don’t understand if Astor is or is not cruelty free, acordin their site they do not test or buy supplies that are tested, I red somewhere that they don’t ship to China….so I’m conflicted because there are a lot of info on the internet, I don’t know what to believe, and like you said, not all companies that don’t test have certificate .It would be nice to add some European companies , because we have a hard time finding something cruelty free. In my country we have so little cruelty free items it’s really sad. I have to order everything from other countries.
You seem insanely knowledgeable and from what I’ve just looked at, this company called Grove Collaborative, only sells cruelty free products but several of the brands are not on your list. Can you let me know if they are legit? I would be very appreciative and maybe you’ll even discover a couple more to add to your list!☺
Mrs Meyers is missing. They are cruelty free. I’m in the process of changing everything in my home over and this company has a lot of hood cleaning supplies.
Hi Suzy, there’s an update elsewhere on this site from 2016 mentioning that Moroccanoil started selling in Mainland China, and I’m able to see information about their store in Mainland China online. I think they should be removed from this list.
I find it very interesting that a website who strives for Cruelty Free products, advertises for NARS. Even though they are cruelty free now, their products will soon be sold in China, which requires animal testing. Very upset about this.
Yes, we are so sad that NARS has chosen profits over ethics. We have removed them from our cruelty-free list. 🙁
SeneGence (who makes and is famous for LipSense) their entire range is Vegan – with no animal testing or by-products, all naturally re-occuring ingredients (so isn’t depleting rainforests) doesn’t sell to countries that do independent testing and doesn’t share a facility with any company that do test on animals. 🙂 Just FYI as I thought it would be great to add to your list.
I bought E.L.F recently and it states on the label that it’s made in China… Surely this means it’s also tested on animals?

How about Bee by the Sea Natural Products Inc. It is a small company out of Ontario, Canada. It says no animal testing but is it really?

Why and I just bought from Deciem. ?? I like the brand and they seem to be very honest, but I hope this doesn’t change their cruelty free status in the future. I wish cruelty free brands would stop associating with these huge corporations that are buying out every cruelty free brand. I just hope Deciem won’t fully sell out.
Hi. I think you may have to update your list of cruelty free products. I had a chat with an agent from the Nars website. I enquired about their cruelty free policy and got a response which says that they don’t conduct tests on animals unless required by the law.
I think that pretty much concludes that their so called cruelty free policy isn’t encompassing. You may want to review this.

I just read that The Body Shop has been sold by L’oréal and bought by Natura Cosmetics – does anyone know if this means that they’re “completely” cruelty free (I mean, not owned by a parent company that sells products in countries where animal testing are required?). I don’t know Natura Cosmetics so I’m not sure.

Do you know anything about Maui moisture. I love how good they all smell and they make my hair really soft. On the back of the label they have a cruelty free logo on them but they aren’t on your list. Will you please do a little research for us and let me know what you come up with.

have you looked into As I Am brand? They have great cleansing conditioners but I wanted to see if they test on animals or not. I can’t find info on their website but tried to email. I was curious if anyone has looked into them. Or can you recommend a cruelty-free Co-wash?
