How We Vetted These Brands
All brands are first and foremost approved by Cruelty-Free Kitty as being cruelty-free according to our standard. This means that each brand has verified that no animal testing is going on at any point during production and beyond. The brands have verified the following:
- No animal testing by the brand itself at any point during product
- No animal testing by its suppliers for finished products or ingredients
- No animal testing performed by third parties
- No animal testing where required by law anywhere in the world
None of the brands sell products in mainland China, where animal testing is still common practice in 2021. Please note that as of right now, pre-market animal testing is not "banned" in China and post-market animal testing is still officially on paper.
Secondly, the brands claim to be 100% vegan by self-assessment, meaning they do not use any animal-derived ingredients. Often, this information is found on their website or in their FAQ, but in some cases we had to contact the brands directly for this information.
The Difference Between Cruelty-Free and Vegan
If you're shopping cruelty-free, you probably already know the difference between these two common terms. However, it's one of the questions I get the most from beginners.
"Cruelty-free" refers to the animal testing. It means that brands do not test on animals at any point, and neither do their suppliers or any third parties.
"Vegan" refers to the ingredients. It means that a product does not contain any animal-derived ingredients. When we talk about a vegan brand (or a brand that's 100% vegan), it means that none of their products contain any animal-derived ingredients.
Refine The Brands To Find Exactly What You're Looking For
At the top right of the list, tap the "refine" button. You'll then be able to refine by product category, price point, and more. You can even choose to only show brands that are not owned by a parent company that tests on animals, black-owned vegan brands, and more.
This way, you're able to display a list of vegan brands that are budget-friendly, for instance. Or vegan skincare brands that are also sustainable.

Looking for more cruelty-free brand lists?
I highly recommend checking out our list of vetted sustainable brands. Most of those brands are vegan, and you can refine that list as well to only show vegan brands. Sustainable brands use eco-conscious packaging, thoughtful ingredients, and have sustainability company policies in place.

Hey sorry all good , just read on your website that not all of the products are vegan lol… interesting why though if we’re taking about being cruel here
What about Givanni haircare?
Thank you! I am super pleased to see ZAO on the list. I had only come across it by chance and then was a reseller at vegan events for 2 years and now just a customer. I will certainly be looking at the other suggestions too. Your hard work is very much appreciated.
