The Truth About Animal Testing

Each year, more than 500,000 animals are used in painful cosmetics tests that ultimately kill them. These animals include rabbits, mice, rats, guinea pigs, but also dogs. You've read that right: dogs are used in animal tests for cosmetics. Animal testing is still happening in the beauty industry in 2022, even though many brands try to deny and minimize this sad reality.

When you walk into your favorite drugstore, it's impossible to avoid products that were tested on animals. This is because over 90% of the top beauty and personal care brands still fund animal testing. Brands like L'Oreal, Neutrogena, Maybelline, Revlon, Pantene, Olay, Cerave, and hundreds more are NOT cruelty-free.

When you do manage to find cruelty-free brands, most of them are more expensive. You'll have to pay 2 to 3 times the price. For example, the cheapest cruelty-free toothpaste at my drugstore costs $6.99 compared to one tested on animal priced at $1.99. It's the same if you buy everything from makeup to laundry detergent.

Why I Started This Box

What You Get Every Month

Each month, you get 4 to 5 full-size products. The products I choose for each box are more than a "nice to have". They're must-haves, including essentials like deodorant, toothpaste, and shampoo.

I also use your feedback to determine which products you want, and you can also choose your custom shades for certain products. Overall, you'll get skincare, makeup, hair care and styling, body and personal care, as well as occasional home and wellness products.

Our Policy on Parent Companies

You'll be happy to know that there are no parent companies that test on animals allowed in the Better Beauty Box. All brands included are 100% cruelty-free and verified by Cruelty-Free Kitty, and they're also not owned by a parent company that tests on animals.

Are The Products Vegan?

All products are also 100% vegan, meaning that they don't include any ingredients that are animal-derived. You won't find carmine, beeswax, animal hair, or anything else that comes from animals in your box.

The monthly subscription is $39.99 per month, but you can save by pre-paying for 3 months ($37.99 per box) or 12 months ($34.99 per box) upfront.

Shipping is free to the United States and there's a flat shipping fee of $15 per box for international orders (please note you're getting 4 to 5 full-size items so it's a heavier box!).

Timeline

Since our launch, we've continuously improved every aspect of the Better Beauty Box (formerly Cruelty-Free Kitty Beauty Box). We've also been lucky enough to partner with some amazing brands, like Juice Beauty, Kahina Giving Beauty, Elate Cosmetics, PiperWai, and so many more. Here's a look at our journey so far:

December 2021: Pre-launch! We announced our upcoming box to our first subscribers and received an overwhelmingly positive response.

March 2022: Our first box shipped! With a total value of $165, it contained some of my long-time favorite conscious brands including a full-size Oil Cleanser by Kahina Giving Beauty ($59).

July 2022: Changed our name to the Better Beauty Box! Same great box by Cruelty-Free Kitty, different name and website.

September 2022: Shade customization now available! For the first time in our September box, subscribers could pick between 3 shades of Elate's LipStick Lip Pencil.
