NUXE is NOT a cruelty-free company. NUXE does not test their ingredients or finished products on animals, but they do sell their products physically in mainland China, which means their products are tested on animals, as China requires mandatory animal testing for all foreign cosmetics that are sold within the country.

I e-mailed and got the following reply:

Dear Mme,

Thank you for your email.

We do not use ingredients or do any testing on animals.

As far as our China development is concerned, we, as a local sister company of Nuxe Paris, do not have this information.

Wishing you a very nice week.

Best regards

I then e-mailed with the same questions, and got the e-mail below. Based on this e-mail, they make it very clear that their products are sold in China, although they don’t actually say those words.

What confirms this is the existence of their Chinese site (

[NUXE does not test any product or ingredient on animals and we ensure that our raw materials aren’t tested on animals.]

En revanche, les autorités chinoises peuvent, de leur propre et unique gré, décider de pratiquer des tests sur des produits avant leur commercialisation sur leur territoire. [But China requires animal testing on products before they can be sold there.]

Nous regrettons cette situation et nous espérons que l’Europe saura convaincre les autorités chinoises concernées de la fiabilité des méthodes alternatives utilisées sur le marché européen. [We regret this situation and we hope China will be convinced that alternative testing methods, such as those used in Europe, are reliable.]

Nous vous souhaitons une belle journée.

Très cordialement,

Christine Aupetit

  • Thank you, that’s useful information. I would like to point out that the translation about China is not accurate and could even be misleading. It says that China can decide, if it chooses to, to test on animals, not that it requires it. Thanks you.

  • I translated the idea to keep it short and simple. The brand has to finance the tests, so the result is the same. They’re just phrasing it in a way that makes them look better.

French is my native language and I used to work as a translator. 🙂

  • Dear Cruelty free kitty 😉
Thank you very much for this post.I was just holding Nuxe prospect as the girl in local drogerie gave it to me according to my question about cruelty free products that are in expensive line of drogerie products.
Again thank you so much, because this prospect is going to garbage and this girl ain’t buying this shit(excuse me for languge but that is just what it is).
    Greetings from Croatia.
