Gerard Cosmetics: Animal Testing Policy & Correspondence

by Aly Laughlin

May 27, 2018

Gerard Cosmetics started out as a teeth whitening brand which has now expanded to makeup products built on that same premise including their teeth whitening lip glosses. There is a lot of talk of Gerard Cosmetics being "cruelty-free" on social media, but the official Gerard Cosmetics website does not include an animal testing policy, nor do they have any cruelty-free certifications. So we reached out to them to verify their status.

Spread the word.

Fortunately, Gerard Cosmetics is cruelty-free! They have confirmed that they don’t test finished products or ingredients on animals. They also stated that their suppliers don’t test on animals, and no third parties test on animals on their behalf. They don’t test on animals where required by law and their products aren’t sold in China. They do not have a parent company at this time. Hooray!

They do make a lot of vegan-friendly products (including their lip glosses) but they do not have a vegan product list at this time. When in doubt, you can always reach out to customer service and they will be able to let you know if a product is vegan or not!

Social Media

When asked about their animal testing status on social media, Gerard Cosmetics always replies stating that they are cruelty-free.

Here is one of many similar conversations I found on Twitter in which Gerard Cosmetics states that they are cruelty-free:

While this is great to hear, it doesn't provide us with enough information to determine whether Gerard Cosmetics is truly a cruelty-free brand.

Email Correspondence

Since their social media statements were incomplete and I couldn't find an animal testing policy on their website, I reached out to Gerard Cosmetics with specific questions to find out if they are cruelty-free. Here is the response I received:

Hi, how do you know if the company is lying about being cruelty free as some brands can just say they are still hurt animals behind the scenes
