Lipstick is one of those things I just can’t get enough of, so I was super thrilled to try out the vacation-themed Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipsticks in several shades! Keep reading for my thoughts and swatches below.

What Is It?
The Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick is described as “A full coverage matte lipstick with lip-loving antioxidants.” I find this to be an accurate description! While it first goes on with a slightly more satin finish, it does dry down to matte throughout the course of wear.
It is very creamy and hydrating and it doesn’t stick to dry patches at all, which is a common problem with other vegan matte lipsticks I’ve tried. As another bonus, because the formula is already sooo creamy, it does not require any warming up before applying.
As for the full coverage claim, this lipstick is insanely pigmented. The color payoff is amazing with one swipe. After swatching the shades on my arm (as pictured below), my arm was stained for a full day. That being said, staining isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you prefer to have a little bit of a stain left behind on your lips after your lipstick wears off throughout the course of the day!
The lipstick comes in a luxurious ombre metal tube which I would be proud to display in my lipstick drawer or carry in my purse. However, with this metal packaging comes one major downfall. When you twist up the product and apply any pressure to the lipstick bullet at all, it presses against the edge of the packaging and cuts up the lipstick, which makes a bit of a mess. Because the formula of the lipstick is so creamy, thsi also makes it more prone to breaking, which is no fun!
Here I swatched “Hey Sailor”, “Bikini”, “Top Down”, “Firework” and “Bonfire”. As shown, they all of the shades are incredibly pigmented and creamy, and not patchy in the least. While they are all absolutely gorgeous and versatile, my personal favorites are “Top Down” and “Firework”.
L to R: “Hey Sailor”, “Bikini”, “Top Down”, “Firework”, “Bonfire”
- This product is vegan-friendly!
- They are suuuuper pigmented.
- The formula is creamy and hydrating and does not cling to dry patches.
- The packaging is a bit messy and not ideal for preserving the beauty of the lipstick bullets.
- Because they are so pigmented, they can leave behind a bit of a stain. This isn’t always a bad thing, but is still important to note.
Overall I think the formula of this lipstick is incredible, and it is certainly one of the creamiest and most pigmented vegan lipsticks I have tried! If you are looking for the perfect hydrating bold lipstick, I think you will absolutely love these!
On the downside, the packaging does have some major cons and because of this I don’t see myself reaching for these regularly. I personally just get too frustrated when the lipsticks get smushed and damaged after one use.
