New From Rahua: Silicone-Free Hydration Shampoo & Conditioner Review

by Suzana Rose

Sep 20, 2018

I tried the new Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner from Rahua, a luxury ethical brand. I love the Rahua brand because their mission is to preserve the Amazonian rainforest, which means that they have high ethical standards when crafting their products.

Spread the word.

The Rahua oil they source is produced sustainably and through "symbiotic" practices. This is a term they coined which means that it's produced through ancestral, ceremonial methods and knowledge, without disturbing the environment and without machinery. The workers are also paid a fair wage, and the ingredients are harvested in the wild.

The Hydration Shampoo

The Hydration Shampoo has a silky, creamy texture. It foams lightly, enough to give you the feeling that it's cleaning your hair deeply. I love that it feels nourishing just as it feels cleansing, as it's creamy and moisturizing. It's described as a "maximum moisture shampoo" that "restores dry, damanged hair" and it definitely lives up to the claims.

"Created to replenish the driest, thirstiest hair, this rich and creamy formula is infused with our plant-powered complex crafted with rare Amazonian oils and natural protein-bonding sugars that drive hydration deep into each strand of hair. Scented with the tropical aromas of passion fruit and mango, this innovative formula leaves scalp hydrated and balanced and hair stronger, healthier, smoother and shinier."

The Hydration Conditioner

The Hydration Conditioner contains no silicones, yet is highly moisturizing and has the slippery feel of silicones. Since my hair isn't particularly dry, I used the conditioner on my ends only, and let it soak in for a few minutes before rinsing.

Scented with the tropical aromas of passion fruit and mango, this innovative formula softens, de-tangles and tames hair, leaving it manageable and stronger, healthier, smoother and shinier."

Overall Thoughts

Overall, this combo made my hair feel silky and soft -- much silkier than other products I've tried in the past. I love that this can be achieved through natural ingredients and without the use of silicones. I also noticed less frizziness after blow-drying, without the use of any additional products.

Both the shampoo and the conditioner feel luxurious and (dare I say again!) super silky, and they delivered on the claims. For reference, my hair was partially bleached so the extra hydration provided great results, though I don't have naturally dry hair.

Bottom Line

Should you purchase these products?

If Rahua fits your budget, and if you love to support brands that source their products ethically and sustainably, the Hydration range is perfect for those who need an extra boost of moisture. I would also check out the variety of products they offer for different hair types.

The Hydration Shampoo and Conditioner retail for $34 individually, and contain 275ml (9oz) of product. You can purchase them from The Detox Market.

Detox Market is great. I get samples from them all the time – it’s allowed me to sample brands like Rahua, RMS Beauty and May Lindstrom to see if the product is worth the pricetag. I love this shampoo and conditioner, although I use the Color formula. I also use Husk brand and think it is also very good, but is more commercial. I like supporting a brand like Rahua who has such a strong ethical code.
