I’ve been hearing a lot about the baking soda-free natural deodorant from Meow Meow Tweet, since it’s one of the few natural deodorants formulated without this irritating ingredient.

Luckily for me, I received a full-size jar of this deo in my Petit Vour box (check out Petit Vour here if you’re not subscribed already!).

I’ve been wearing this one for a few months, so here’s my review!

Consistency

This deodorant is creamy at room temperate in the summer, but becomes quite solid in the winter. This means that application is sweet and easy if it’s hot enough, but once it solidifies it quickly becomes gross to dig your finger in the container (or impossible depending on your nail situation). I wish it came with a little spatula.

Scent

It has a mild grapefruit scent when you apply it, but the scent doesn’t linger throughout the day. It also vaguely smells “like froot loops” according to my boyfriend. It’s all-natural though.

Ingredients

The big game-changer in this deodorant is that it doesn’t contain baking soda. Typically, natural deodorants will contain baking soda as a natural way to keep combat odor. The problem is that baking soda has a high pH, which irritates the skin. Those with more sensitive armpits can even get a rash, redness, and itchiness from this ingredient.

I’ve personally gotten irritation from some natural deodorants with baking soda, but not others. This one however is 100% irritation-free and feels amazing, and I’ve never heard anyone complain about any irritation.

Most of the ingredients are certified organic.

*manihot esculenta (arrowroot) root powder, magnesium hydroxide, *cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, *butyrospermum parkii (shea) fruit butter, *simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil, euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax, *citrus paradisi (grapefruit), *citrus limon (lemon), *citrus sinensis (sweet orange), & citrus bergamia (bergamot FCF) essential oils | *certified organic ingredient

Effectiveness

Because it doesn’t have baking soda, this deodorant isn’t as long-lasting as other deodorants for me — for example my current favorite which is Schmit’s Deodorant (review here).

Keep in mind this is my personal experience, and I do need some serious odor protection if I’m going to be sweating. However it’s still an effective deodorant for the more relaxed days.

Who’s This Product For?

If you’ve gotten irritation from other deodorants, try this one because you won’t regret it. Ladies with sensitive skin, your deodorant prayers have been answered!

I would recommend this deodorant to everyone who needs light to medium odor protection (is this even a thing?!). It’s not a bulletproof deodorant, but it’s a great way to give your armpits a rest from baking soda or toxic ingredients like aluminum.

My Final Thoughts

My only complain is that it’s not as effective as my holy grain which contains baking soda. Since I’m trying to get away from the baking soda, this is the next best thing.

The pros majorly outweigh the cons, and I don’t think it’s kind to our pits to treat them to a daily dose of baking soda. Whether or not you feel the consequences of baking soda on your skin, this is a deodorant to try. If it’s not effective enough for you, you can always use it on days you’re lounging around.

The jar will last a long time. I’ve been using mine for 3 months and I’m about halfway through.
