A Holistic Approach To Skincare by ‘I Am Selfcare’

I Am Selfcare is different from most skincare brands I’ve tried. For one, it’s really hard to find a skincare company that values natural products and effective ingredients. And second of all, the products themselves worked wonders for my skin type. I Am Selfcare is also Leaping Bunny-certified and offers many vegan options, and they’re offering my readers a 25% discount, so let me give you a little tour!

Cathy McCracken, founder of I Am Selfcare, believes in nurturing the body, mind and spirit through yoga, meditation, and taking good care of your skin. But finding skincare products that really work is often tricky! Cathy started her company when she had the realization that so many claims on cosmetics labels are simply misleading. She chose honesty over these misleading claims, which frankly is a breath of fresh air in the beauty industry.

Her goal was to take her own holistic approach and incorporate it into the skincare’s philosophy, creating products that truly work on the skin, but also on a deeper level.

Every ingredient chosen by Cathy has a purpose, and her products are effective not only because of the high quality ingredients, but also because of their right concentration. The Serene Night Emollient Repair, for instance, contains over 30 active ingredients (more on this product later!).

I tried 3 I Am products as part of my regimen: Pure Cleanser, Magnificent Moisturizer, and Serene Treatment. A little bit about my skin first: I have combination skin that’s mostly dry and dull. It’s also quite sensitive and prone to redness, and I get the occasional hormonal breakout.

My goal with my skincare regimen is basically to smooth out my skin and get rid of dryness, and using this regimen made a difference in my skin’s texture within a week.

The first product I want to share with you is the Pure Clarifying Daily Cleanser ($35). This is a cream cleanser for combination or oily skin, and it contains Salicylic Acid to gently exfoliate and fight blemishes.

I’ve tried several cream cleansers, and I can say that this one’s my favorite. “Silky” would be the perfect way to describe it, and it leaves my skin so, so soft without any residue. I also love how clean my skin feels afterwards, without feeling stripped at all.

I also tried the Magnificent Day and Night Hydrating Moisturizer ($39) and it has the same silky texture. It feels like a luxurious moisturizer, and it contains Sea Kelp Bioferment (which by the way can also be found in La Mer’s moisturizer that costs you an arm and a leg). It also contains Hyaluronic Acid to keep skin supple and hydrated.

This is a VERY nourishing moisturizer that feels silky and not greasy. This moisturizer didn’t make me break out, even though it’s ultra-hydrating. I used it at night, and it literally kept my skin hydrated until the next morning. When you apply it, your skin instantly goes from dry to smooth and nourished, and it stays that way without feeling heavy or greasy at all.

I have to show you how clever the package is as well! The container looks like a jar, but it’s completely air-tight.

In order to get some product, you simply push the top, and it dispenses a small amount. Not only is this more hygienic, but it ensures that the products are fresh and effective for longer.

Since I Am Selfcare products are made fresh to ensure that they’re as effective as possible, this packaging is very smart!

Last but not least, Serene Night Emollient Repair ($57) is the product that made the biggest change in the appearance of my skin. This product contains over 30 active ingrdients including Retinyl Acetate (Vitamin A), Niacinamide, Sea Kelp Bioferment, Squalane, Hyaluronic Acid, Frankincense, and Peptides.

All these ingredients work to renew your skin and help with fine lines, hyperpigmentation, imperfections, and scars. This is marketed as an anti-aging product, but it’s perfectly suitable for anyone who wants smoother, softer skin (and honestly, who doesn’t?!).

Vitamin A is not only an anti-aging treatment, but it can also be very beneficial for acne. For me, Vitamin A has been more effective than anything else at taking care of blemishes. If I apply Serene on active breakouts, they’re inactive by morning. This product also seems to make the spots fade faster, and gets rid of those annoying bumps within days. I believe this is due to the Vitamin A that’s used in this product, in the right form and the right concentration.

Bottom Line

I Am Selfcare is somewhat of a unicorn in the skincare industry. They focus on natural products, effective ingredients, and don’t stop at your skin! Their approach is holistic and values the mind, spirit, and heart. Cathy McCracken, the founder, is a fountain of knowledge when it comes to skincare, and puts her knowledge to use in each of her products.

If you have problem skin like me, or if you’re looking for anti-aging skincare that’s based on science and has a heart, definitely go take a look at I Am Selfcare. Hi Suzi,
The line looks fabulous. I love a good salicylic acid cleanser. The packaging is beautiful. I think the kate sommerville goat milk cream is packaged the same way too. Very helpful.
Would be keeping a look out for these.
